Improve your Website Performance
Images and graphics
The images or graphics are too large in many sites. It does not mean the dimensions of the images, but the excessive file size. And it doesn't load quickly in a web browser. There are no specific rules regarding the file sizes but if the website doesn't load in a few seconds naturally most of the visitors will move on to other websites. Make a qualified web designer check on the website and make sure that the image size is pretty sufficient which speed up the opening of the web site. You can reduce image size by reducing the quality. For example, even a compressed image will still display fine for the web in Jogs.
Flash animation
While animation can add a nice dimension to your website, it can slow down the speed of your website. Sometimes it becomes slow if it is over used. Once your visitors saw the animation for little time, they probably don't want to wait each time while it plays again. Animation can enhance a website without bogging it down, if it is used sparingly and with taste. Some websites that once had introduced flash pages are removing them slowly because they found out that excessive use of Flash can also decrease your search engine rankings.
Web page code
It is better to check your code and make sure that it is efficient and well written. If you have any comments in your code then take and check it. You can save a few Kb each time your page is accessed by reducing the code bloat of your site. And also you can save a lot of money in bandwidth charges by getting thousands of hits a day in your site.
CSS and Caching
You can improve your web performance by having your web page style information in an external file because the CSS style sheets are cached on the first time they are accessed. Therefore, when a visitor goes to different pages on your site, any CSS style sheets that have already been accessed will remain in cache. CSS is also limit the amount of HTML code by separating code from content. Any style of information can be declared in one place, but it is used throughout your web site.
Links
The links which are in your web pages should be valid. Make sure that the pages still exist if you link to other external web pages. The change of page names on external sites can cause links to become invalid. This is also a detriment for search engines. Search engines check for links and if there are bad links, they may penalize your site. The internal pages on your site should be valid as well. So if you add or remove web pages on your site, ensure that any links to these pages remain accurate and constant.
Hosting
You have to evaluate the quality of your web host if your website is still slow even after cleaning up your HTML code and even after trimming back the size of your images, graphics and animation. A free hosting is not recommended that much. Free hosting providers usually have servers that are taxed overly and lack the resources needed. So you need reliability and accountability in regards to website hosting.
Design
Some websites are designed beautifully with lots of graphics, but if your visitors can't navigate your site quickly and easily, there is no use of them. Remember the prime goal of your website. It is to sell a product or service or provide information, and not to dazzle the visitors with animation and web design skills. Most of the successful websites provide important messages or sell a product safely, securely and efficiently.
